BRICK CITY – THE BACKSTAGE TOUR
A new LEGO® exhibition and design workshop tour is set to draw thousands of LEGO® fans when it opens at Riddle’s Court as part of Edinburgh’s Festival Fringe on August 4th .
BrickCity - The Backstage Tour has been skillfully created by renowned LEGO® artist Warren Elsmore. The tour will offer enthusiasts young and old a unique opportunity to watch Warren and his team in action as they bring their workshop on tour for the first time. It will provide a behind the scenes insight into the creation of a LEGO® cityscape including working models, famous buildings and popular LEGO® characters.
The event will feature a fantastic City diorama including historic buildings from Edinburgh’s Old Town, as well as more contemporary features such as the airport and an illuminated fairground.
According to Brand Finance Global 500 report 2017 LEGO is now the world’s most powerful brand and its enduring appeal is anticipated to draw the largest Fringe crowds ever to Riddle’s Court which will have just re-opened following a £6 million restoration by Scottish Historic Buildings Trust. Situated on the Lawnmarket near Edinburgh Castle, it is the oldest tenement in Edinburgh and has a long history as a Fringe venue. Maggie Smith and Stephen Fry both played to audiences at Riddles Court early in their careers.
Commenting on the exhibition Warren, who last exhibited at Riddle’s Court in 2014 said:
“Living in Edinburgh, I have long wanted to put on an exhibition of this scale, and to be back at Riddle’s Court following the wonderful refurbishment is a privilege. This year’s show will involve the creation of our first ever BrickCity night scape complete with street, fairground and airport lighting to add an additional touch of magic. I always look forward to meeting fellow LEGO® enthusiasts and sharing news and views on what’s new and upcoming.”
Warren will also host a 1 hour evening masterclasses entitled ‘how to get paid … to play with LEGO®’ as he explains how he turned a hobby into a full-time career.
